Columbia Heights An Affordable Neighborhood Undergoing Revitalization

Located at the center of Washington D.C. is the Columbia Heights neighborhood, a community that has seen drastic changes in the recent years. People travel to the Columbia Heights region when looking for more affordable housing and a quieter lifestyle than the hustle-and-bustle of other neighborhoods located closer to The Capitol.

Due to a recent revitalization plan, the neighborhood is bringing in more businesses to spur economic growth to the region as it has become economically diverse. The median household income in the neighborhood is a little less than $31,500 as it has a population of 31,300 people. It is an easy work commute to other areas in Washington D.C. as there is tons of charm and things to do in the neighborhood.

Attractions

While some of the more historical attractions lie around Capitol Hill, there are local attractions and events in Columbia Heights. See performances at the Gala Hispanic Theatre as they show classical and contemporary plays, music, art, and dance in Spanish and English. Community programs are geared to get youth involved in cultural and economical activities at the Dance Institute and Latin American Youth Center.

Events

Spurring community togetherness, Columbia Heights hosts several local events for residents. The Columbia Heights Festival has live music, food, vendors and activities for the kids. It encourages local artists and performers to show off their skills and educate the community. People who purchase a home in Columbia Heights can also enjoy the Latino Festival. There are science fairs, arts & crafts, parades and children’s festivals so people can learn more about the Latin community.

Shopping and Dining

During the revitalization plan, the DC USA retail shopping complex was opened in 2008 to offer a place for shopping and dining opportunities. There are three floors to this complex as major retailers and specialty shops offer a wide range of products for shoppers of all ages. If you are looking for restaurants to dine at or to just grab a quick snack, you can stop in at a variety of places. Pho 14 is perfect when you are looking for subs and Vietnamese meals, The Everlasting Life Cafe has delicious down-home soul food, or grab some great burgers at the Five Guys Burgers and Fries.
Columbia Heights is a great place if you are seeking diversity and economic growth in a small community. Enjoy all the benefits the area has to offer when looking for a home in Washington D.C.
